CUT’s Professor Kusakana is among the top-cited scientists globally

Professor Kanzumba Kusakana has done it again- securing his place among the top-cited scientists globally in the prestigious "Updated science-wide author databases of standardised citation indicators".
This recognition reaffirms his status as one of CUT’s leading researchers and highlights the exceptional influence of his work on both national and global spheres. Professor Kusakana’s ground-breaking contributions to Energy; Artificial Intelligence; Image Processing and Enabling as well as Strategic Technologies, continue to push the boundaries of research, placing CUT and the fore front.
Ranked among the top 300 researchers in South Africa, his latest achievement underscores his standing as a researcher of international acclaim. Starting his publishing journey in 2008, Kusakana’s meteoric rise is a clear sign of his research quality and impact, outperforming peers who have been in the field for decades. With an impressive h-index of 22 and 2,159 citations, his influence in the academic world is undeniable.
Prof. Kuzumba Kusakana is a C2 NRF researcher with focus on electrical Engineering, Renewable energy, Energy Storage, Energy Management and Optimization. He was inaugurated as a full professor in the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering in March 2022, and has over 300 publications in journals, conferences proceedings and book chapters. His current research focuses on small scale renewable power generation as well as optimal energy management, which supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals. He is an associate editor for the IET Renewable Power Generation Journal (Impact factor 3.93), as well as for the Journal of Energy Storage (Impact factor: 6.583), and has a H-index of 3.1. He is a senior member of SAIEE, a professional Engineer registered with ECSA, a member of AEE and SAEEC. He obtained his BSc Engineering Degree in Electromechanical Engineering from the University of Lubumbashi, an MTech degree in Electrical Power Engineering from Tshwane University of Technology, an MBA in Energy Management from Cyprus Institute of Marketing, and a DTech in Electrical.
