New students shown the ropes
At the beginning of each academic year, universities host orientation programmes for first-year students with the aim of assisting them to smoothly transit from high school to tertiary environment, making them accustomed to the culture of the university.

CUT held its orientation ceremony on 23 January 2016 at both Bloemfontein and Welkom campuses, following the successful registration period that unfolded from 12 January. The day intended to provide new students with information on a wide variety of programmes offered by the university, and t0 help them prepare for the first semester. In order to help them succeed in their studies and beyond, these students were introduced to a number of available student resources and intervention programmes that are intended to help them cope with their academic challenges and studies at CUT. These included mentorship, financial aid support, sports, student organisations, safety and security, wellness centre, library information services, internationalisation, etc. The Official opening of the university is on 29 and 30 January 2016 at Welkom and Bloemfontein campuses respectively and classes will commence on 01 February 2016.
