Mangaung Executive Mayor highlights on the importance of collaborations and investment in youth during the 2024 National Science Week at CUT

At the official launch of National Science Week (NSW) 2024, which took place on 30 September, Cllr. Gregory Nthatisi, Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metro, highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational institutions such as CUT and local government.

He called for contributions from various sectors to transform the metropolitan municipality into an institution that effectively serves the people of Mangaung. "I represent an Institution that has a relationship with all Institutions of learning and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to quench into a knowledge economy commanded by men and women of substance and stature."

He spoke about the urgency of investing in youth. "With any community, a society that does not invest in the future of its youth, is doomed." This call to action instils a sense of responsibility and commitment in all of us.

The launch was not just an add-on event but a crucial call to action for the government and universities to collaborate on technological advancements in the province, share research knowledge, and solve societal challenges. This call to action is an opportunity for all of us to be actively involved in shaping our future.

National Science Week featured daily themed discussions aimed at engaging participants from all walks of life. Each day focused on different aspects of technology and its societal impacts. The week concluded on 5 October 2024.
