Management and staff conclude fruitful negotiations
The Labour Unions and Management at CUT signed an agreement on the salary increments for 2017 on Friday, 3 February 2017.  The two parties made significant progress at the negotiation table and signed a joint agreement which cemented an increase of 6.5 percent across the board effective from 1 January 2017.

“I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the leadership of the Unions and the Management Team, as the Joint Bargaining Forum (JBF), who had work tirelessly since September 2016 to finalise this matter, and to the Executive Committee of Council (Exco) and Council for their support in this regard. This is another great achievement that we managed to resolve this matter in such a professional way, which is once again confirmation of our constructive engagement culture as stakeholders at CUT, and when it matters, that we commit ourselves to resolve difficult and complex matters, in the best interest of the university staff and students.” affirmed Professor Henk de Jager, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal.

The university sector is under tremendous pressure which affects the financial viability of universities. Management has agreed on a number of cost containment measures to be implemented in 2017. “For 2017, our goal is to enhance an institutional culture where people are valued, and all forms of unfair discrimination are uprooted, whilst promoting diversity, non-racialism, non-sexism and human dignity for all”, concluded Prof. de Jager.
