Inspiring the Next Generation of Tech Leaders: IT Career Fair Empowers Local Learners

The Welkom Campus Department of Information Technology recently hosted an inspiring career fair, welcoming 100 learners from Phehello and Lebogang Secondary Schools. This flagship event offered young minds firsthand exposure to the dynamic world of technology and showcased the diverse career pathways within the IT industry.

From live coding demonstrations to thought-provoking discussions on the future of IT, the fair created a vibrant space for exploring careers in software development, networking, cybersecurity, data analytics, and other Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) fields. Learners were especially inspired by interactive sessions showcasing website design, program development, and digital tools shaping the global economy.

This initiative directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), by equipping learners with knowledge, skills, and inspiration to thrive in the digital economy. It also reflects CUT Vision 2030, which champions innovation, community engagement, and access to transformative learning opportunities for all.

“Engagements like these open doors for our youth, enabling them to envision endless possibilities within the technological world,” said Dina Moloja, Community Engagement Leader. “As CUT, we take pride in leading the way to prepare and shape the next generation of innovators for a globalized, tech-driven workforce.”

Through partnerships with local schools and communities, the Department of IT empowers learners by providing resources, mentorship, and exposure to the latest technological trends.
