Every year CUT pays homage to and acknowledges the residence students who have performed well during the previous year. “By acknowledging the academic achievements of our residence students we say that it is important to perform well when you are part of CUT’s student body.” said Dr Paks Tondi, Deputy Registrar of Student Services.

The Residence Unit of CUT held a Residence Award ceremony on 15 May 2013, at the historical Artec Hall on Bloemfontein Campus. The annual event is held as a reflection of the university’s pursuit of excellence and quality education. During the ceremony, various certificates, trophies and medals were presented to the students as a token of honour for their diligent hard work in their various academic learning programmes. Students have to perform with an average above 75% to be eligible for recognition. “We have established a programme called Academic Mentors who use their academic acumen to assist those residence students who might not be as academically strong, which leads to an overall increase in performance in the residences, and a culture of academic competency.” asserted Dr Tondi. A highlight during the event was the announcement of the winner in the category of Best Performing Residence. The ladies in Huis Welgemoed took the top honours, followed by Manheim Ladies in the second position, and the gentlemen from Loggies residence occupying the third place.
