Hotel School Annual Prestige Awards 2016
Department of Hospitality Management in the Faculty of Management Sciences held its 10th annual prestige awards to honor and give recognition to students who performed above average during their 2015 Academic year. 


CUT has one of the best and excellent Hotel Schools in the country where students are not only equipped with the fine-tuned curriculum but also, they are well groomed for perfection. In 2015, the Saxon Hotel General Manager, and extraordinary hotelier Mr George Cohen, mentioned that he is proud to be associated with the university and has witnessed a team of dedicated and hardworking staff members who give their all to ensure that their student are market ready to conquer the sector. Mr Cohen further made a pledge to play a role in 2016 in ensuring that Saxon Hotel gets on board like all the other donors who have been contributing towards the deserving students’ education as well as exposing them to the practical world upon completion. The guest speaker, Director and Co-owner of Food and Beverage Institute and CUT Alumni, Mr. Lesley Jacobs, advised the students to remember to serve with a smile, as they will be the face of the hotel. “You need to realize that service and enthusiasm is everything in this career and you will only succeed if you are a team player,” he said. CUT Hotel School management said that they were excited that Saxon Hotel kept its promise and Dikeledi Moremi became the first luckiest recipient of the Saxon Hotel bursary valued at R50 000 split in to three years and guaranteed employment upon completion. Other committed sponsors and role players of all time includes Protea Hotel who contributed an amount of R229 150  to seven new and continuation bursaries, Tsogo Sun R 92 000 to four students while Shoprite Checkers confirmed an amount of R250 000 to five deserving students. 

The top achievers for 2015 went to: 
Best 1st year students: Landre Pretorius, Denise Ackerman, and Juanita Kriel 
Best 2nd year students:  Adrielle du Plessis, Kelebogile Gaohose, and Zante Smith 
Best 3rd years:  Chloe de Villiers (Cum Laude), Jadine Potgieter (Cum Laude) and Yena Mgobhozi 
Best BTech students: Nikita Oliver and Adri van Niekerk and Shanelle Rance 
Most Professional student: Chloe de Villiers. 
Student ambassador:Tseko Mohlakoana and Charne Roodt 
Service Excellent (staff): Mr Marius Burger 
Cum Laude National Diploma: Chloe de Villiers and Jadine Potgieter 
Cum Laude BTech: Nikita Oliver
