The Grey College Secondary School learners took the cup for the fourth time at the 21st annual High School Quiz Whizz competition hosted by the CUT’s Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology.
The Quiz Whizz competition is a science, maths and technology fun game for learners. The quiz not only tests their knowledge but engages them in a unique and fun way, stimulates their brains to think faster, builds confidence, motivates them and creates a sharp memory but most importantly, it is aimed to raise awareness on the importance of STEM subjects in this 4th Industrial Revolution era. The competition is also an effort to increase the university’s involvement in high schools and communities’ scientific and technological activities.
This year, six schools from Bloemfontein and Botshabelo areas went head-to-head against each other racing to answer rounds of gruelling quiz show style questions to secure a spot in the finals. Grey College Secondary School, Sand du Plessis and Sentraal High Schools managed to reach the finals, and Grey Collage Secondary School gave the two schools a run for their money, winning the competition for the fourth time since its inception (2001, 2013, 2015 and 2019).
The schools received certificates, floating trophies and nine bursaries to the value of R 97 500.
