CUT’s Hotel School top performing students receive bursaries to the value of R800 000

The Hotel School hosted its annual prestige day to honour the academic excellence of students who are pursuing Hospitality Management Programmes.

The function was made possible by the generous contributions of CathSeta, Pick ‘n Pay, Urban Hotel, City Lodge and Tsogo Sun to CUT students with bursaries and prize money.  “These companies have shown keen interest to support South Africa’s hospitality industry, CUT, as well as our best students to continue their studies without financial burden and worries,” said Prof. Albert Strydom, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences. “Students are awarded bursaries by industry, not the school, for their remarkable achievements” said Prof. Piet Le Roux, Head of the Department. He continued that Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket, Urban Hotel, City Lodge, and Tsogo Sun, awarded the top academic performing students prize money to the value of R2 500. “A great incentive to study hard.” remarked Prof. Le Roux. Ms Blanché Walzl, General Manager of Protea Hotel Willow Lake was the guest speaker for the evening; she gave students a first-hand account of the industry beyond the universities walls. The Hotel School is the of course no stranger to industry.  It boast two best restaurants that have become household names many events are hosted each year at the Hotel School Atrium test in earnest their organizational par excellence and superb service.
