CUT’s Cycling club launch brings awareness to social cohesion and a healthy lifestyle it plans to promote

The Central University of Technology officially launched the Cycling club, welcoming cyclists keen to be part of the club. Through the cycling club, the university aims to create a friendly environment and promote social cohesion and a healthy lifestyle for the community of Mangaung.

CUT has various sporting codes, and the newly launched club will be 9th on the already existing sporting codes list.

Dr Gary Paul, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Resources and Operations, said that the CUT Cycling club is an open club that welcomes anyone who wants to join. “Our university belongs to the people, the community, and society. We are an engaged institution and want our university to be top of mind in people’s conversations. We want to make an impact on society.”

Dr Paul was also impressed by the number of female cyclists interested in this male-dominated sport. “The other thing that needs to be demystified is that it is an elitist sport. As the CUT Cycling club, we want to debunk that completely. One of the programmes we want to pursue is to power our students to become cyclists.”

It is worth noting that the club took part in the 2022 Cycle Lab Maluti Double 90 in Clarens on 09 April 2022. The cyclists completed the Cycle Lab Maluti Double 90, which started and finished at the President Square, Clarens.
