CUT staff members make their mark at the Two Oceans Marathon
CUT staff members who participated in the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon are from left: Hlulani Baloyi, Lebogang Mogongoa, Lebohang Masheane, Matankiso Ramothelo, Manneheng Raphuthing, Moshao Nkhabu, and Tebogo Likhi.
The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon (TTOM), widely celebrated as “the world’s most beautiful marathon,” took place in Cape Town on 11 April 2026. This iconic ultra-marathon spans a demanding 56 km route, featuring an elevation gain of over 600 metres. Runners are treated to breathtaking coastal views along Chapman’s Peak Drive and must conquer the challenging ascent of Constantia Nek.
The event also included a 21 km half-marathon, covering with an elevation gain exceeding 300 metres.
CUT was proudly represented by a group of dedicated staff members who participated across both race categories (21 km Half Marathon and 56 km Ultra Marathon). Their involvement showcased remarkable endurance, discipline, and a strong commitment to personal wellness.
Participation in an event of this calibre reflects not only individual achievement but also embodies the values of perseverance and resilience, qualities that are integral to both academic and professional success.
CUT staff participated in the following categories
- Mr Tebogo Likhi (Product Development and Technology Station) – 56 km Ultra Marathon
- Mr Hlulani Baloyi (Product Development and Technology Station) – 56 km Ultra Marathon
- Mr Lebogang Masheane (Faculty of Engineering, Built and Information Technology) – 56 km Ultra Marathon
- Dr Lebogang Mogongoa (Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences) – 21 km Half Marathon and 56 km Ultra Marathon
- Mrs Shela Molekwa (CUT Department of Sports) – 56 km Ultra Marathon
- Ms Manneheng Raphuthing (Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences) – 21 km Half Marathon and 56 km Ultra Marathon
- Dr Esther Palmer (Faculty of Management Sciences) – 56 km Ultra Marathon
Most of these members are affiliated with the CUT Athletics Club, which promotes a healthy and active lifestyle among staff and students.
Furthermore, participation in the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon serves as valuable preparation for the Comrades Marathon, often referred to as the “Ultimate Human Race,” scheduled to take place in June 2026.
