CUT Recognised for Societal Impact at the 4th USAf Higher Education Conference
Dr. Gerrie Booysen, custodian of CUT's Changing Lives project, presenting at the 4th USAf Higher Education Conference.
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT), has been recognised for its contribution to societal impact through “Changing Lives,” a project housed within CUT's Centre for Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing (CRPM), as part of the 2025 Universities South Africa (USAf) Societal Impact initiative.
Dr Gerrie Booysen, custodian of CUT's Changing Lives project, represented the university on stage at the 4th USAf Higher Education Conference, alongside representatives of other projects recognised for making a meaningful difference in South African communities.
The national initiative is guided by a thought-provoking question posed by Prof. Chris Brink, former Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University and Newcastle University: “Is anyone better off because of the work?” CUT's recognition highlights the importance of research and innovation that extends beyond academic outputs to address real societal challenges and improve lives.
The conference, held under the theme “Co-creating a Resilient Future,” creates space for universities to reflect on their contribution to society and explore ways to strengthen their impact through research, innovation and collaboration.
