CUT Programme receives Accreditation
Department of Business Management in the Faculty of Management Sciences recently celebrated the   achievement of accreditation certification of the Programme Human Resources Management (HRM) in the department by the South African Board for People Practice (SABPP). The SABPP is the professional and statutory quality assurance body for all HRM learning programmes in South Africa.

Prof. Tshedi Naong, Head of the Department and one of the key drivers in the process could not hide his expression of great happiness and triumph during the occasion and said:  “We at CUT Business Management Department are proud and grateful to have come this far. We pat ourselves on the shoulder for a job well done.” He ascribed the victory of getting the accreditation to the efforts and hard work of a closely-knit team to ensure the relevance of the Human Resources Management Programme. Prof. Naong reiterated that it is the role of CUT to ensure that it develops and produces quality graduates that will not just add to the numbers of graduates each year, but professionals, that are ready and fully equipped to enter the market and challenge the current issues that prevail in the HRM departments in organisations. The accreditation of these programmes is part of the Strategic Transformation of Education Programmes and Structures (STEPS)  which is a massive and concerted undertaking to have demand driven user-orientated programmes. Vision 2020 envisages CUT as a new-generation institution, contributing to the development of the region and beyond, through adopting an output and impact focus and building sustained partnerships with business, government and industry. CUT alumnus, Ms Kgomotso Mopalami congratulated the department for taking the giant leap. She highlighted that the market is in dire need of the best and ethical HR Practitioners.   “HR needs to add real value to organisations, but our current challenge is that the industry lacks well trained practitioners who will go out there and change the current practices that continue to ignore ethical values in HR as well as professionals who will stand for who they are and fight the current situation in HR practices,” she concluded. Mr Xolani Mawande, COO: SA Board for People Practices, commended CUT as a ‘brave’ and competent institution for inviting SABPP to review and scrutinise its level of excellence in HRM practices. He said that getting accreditation is a challenge that many universities shy away from and yet they continue to produce more graduates each year. “I am proud to announce that CUT is one of only seven out of the 23 universities in South Africa to go through the process of getting accreditation and I am elated that they managed to get provisional accreditation. SABPP is grateful to be part of this remarkable milestone!” The certification event also took place at CUT’s Welkom Campus. It should also be noted, that the institution is one of only three Universities of Technology in South Africa to be accorded this revered status. The team that dedicated themselves to the process since January 2014 consisted of all HRM programme staff members, members of the Quality Assurance Office and the Business Advisory Board members.
