CUT is creating a platform for agriculture skills transfer among the youth

Youth in the Free State province had the opportunity to tune up their agriculture skills at the Free State Youth Agri-Skills Expo hosted by the Central University of Technology.
The CUT Community Engagement Unit hosted its first-ever two-day Free State Youth Agri-Skills Expo on 30 June and 01 July 2022. In collaboration with the Black Management Forum (BMF) Young Professionals in the Free State, the CUT hosted the first day of the Expo at the CUT farm in the Bainsvlei area. The expo included practical training on sustainable animal production systems.
The training took place with the assistance of the CUT’s Head of the Agriculture Department, Prof. Pieter Fourie and CUT Farm Manager, Mr Jan Jacobsz. The training session was attended by agriculture graduates, members of the BMF young professionals, women in the agricultural field from the American Corner Mangaung, Enactus and community members.
The second day of the expo took place with the participation of various stakeholders from business formations and the farming community to exchange valuable information and best practices with delegates. In attendance were the Sernick Group, Glen Agricultural College, BMF, the CUT Idea Generator (i-Gym), Enactus CUT, and Dieketseng Farming.
The FS Youth Agri-Skills Expo sought to create a platform for skills transfer among the province’s youth so they could participate in the sector and network with relevant stakeholders.
