CUT Department of Business Management in the Faculty of Management Sciences celebrated a milestone achievement on 19 May following the full accreditation certification for the Human Resources Management (HRM) programme by South African Board for People Practice (SABPP).
Accreditation of these programmes is part of the Strategic Transformation of Education Programmes and Structures (STEPS), which is a massive and concerted undertaking to have demand driven user-orientated programmes. Vision 2020 envisages CUT as a new generation institution, contributing to the development of the region and beyond, through adopting an output and impact focus and building sustained partnerships with business, government, and industry. The accreditation is a cherry on top for CUT students, as their qualifications will be highly recognised within the industry. The university is among a few universities whose qualifications have gone through rigorous quality assurance processes and demanding standards that are widely accepted within private and public sectors. SABPP is a highly recognised body in Human Resources practices in South Africa. For CUT, this is an important space to occupy for the future careers of students.
The certificates were received for both Welkom and Bloemfontein campuses. SABPP has set Human Resource standards and the National Human Resource Management System Model that was launched in August 2013. These HR standards have opened doors for HR managers to become the commissioners of Oath. The Department of Business Management already offers two cutting-edge programs, namely, Human Resources Management and Marketing Management programs. Programs offered include the NDip, BTech, MTech and DTech in Human Resource Management. Adv. Xolani Mawande, COO, SABPP, also officiated the induction of 13 commissioners from HR Management and Government Management Departments in the Faculty of Management Sciences and Interstate Bus Lines. The remarkable milestone was made possible by a team of HRM programme staff members, Quality Assurance Office, and the Business Advisory Board members who dedicated themselves to the process till the end.
Building on recent successes with the launch of the National HR Standards and the new South African HR Competency Model, the national recognition of HR professionals as Commissioners of Oaths has taken the HR profession to a new level of significance, professional status and meaning. The Commissioner of Oaths status further highlights the important role of HR professionals in meeting the HR competency requirement in HR Governance, Risk and Compliance and striving towards achieving the national standard in HR Risk Management.
