CUT hosts class of 2015
CUT hosted the class of 2015 well done function on 06 January 2016. The prestigious event is in honour of 120 matriculants who performed exceptionally well in their 2015 final examinations, making them the best learners in the Province. 

MEC for Education, Honourable Tate Makgoe, mentioned that the province had an increase in matric enrolment from 26 756 in 2014 to 35 496 in 2015. He said that although the province did not meet its set target of 90%, he was content that the continuous financial and academic support received from sponsors and partners is an indication of better years ahead of them. When addressing the top achievers, Prof. Thandwa Mthembu, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of CUT, commended the Free State Department of Education for prioritising and investing in education of youth in the Province under trying economic challenges. He also said that the university would do its best within its means to ensure that the best performers who wished to study at CUT would receive the necessary support in all sorts of ways. “As CUT, we would like to welcome the class of 2015 to our tertiary institution and wish them a prosperous year in their studies,” he concluded. The class of 2015 managed to maintain the high standards of achievement, putting the province at position three with 81, 6% pass rate in the country. The top 120 leaners were pampered with laptops, full bursaries to any universities of their choice, tablet phones, backpacks, and cash. 

The highlight of the province was two schools; namely, Eunice and St Michaels Schools, which received 100%, pass rates and 100% Bachelor pass. Another highlight is the increased pass rate in Maths-69, 1%, Physics-69, 7%, and Accounting-73 % which means better and more quality students for CUT.
