CUT FNB Ixias emerge victorious against FNB Maties in Varsity Cup match

The Central University of Technology FNB Ixias emerged victorious after winning Stellenbosch University FNB Maties 23-19 at the Danie Craven Stadium on the 27 February 2023, making the visitors the fifth Varsity Cup team to overcome FNB Maties on home ground.

FNB Ixias concluded the first half with the upper hand. This was after flyhalf Tyler Sefoor successfully kicked two penalties, followed by converted tries by hooker Ntaopane and Asekho Marubelela. Despite the challenge, Maties made a comeback just before the end of the first half when McKyle Volmoer scored a try converted by Jurie Matthee, leaving the score 20-7.

The last 40 minutes seemed challenging for our CUT FNB Ixias boys, only being able to win themselves one penalty within the second half. This allowed Maties to narrow down the gap with one try by Francios Beytenbach and a converted try by Ammaar Burton which was still not enough to take the match from CUT who is now fourth on the fixture log.

FNB CUT23 (20) - Tries: Tokelo Ntaopane, Asekho Marubelela. Conversions: Tyler Sefoor (2). Penalties: Sefoor (3). FNB Player that Rocks: Xavier Swartbooi (FNB CUT)
