CUT employees from humble beginnings to greatness
In this week’s edition, we celebrate Mrs Malefa Msotywa in her current position as Secretary: Legal Services. Mrs Msotywa’s humble beginning dates back to 2015, when she was still in the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) in the Office of Deputy Registrar: Student Services (currently known as Student Affairs).
In 2021, Msotywa was offered an opportunity to work as a Temporary Administrative Assistant: Graduations at the Assessment and Graduations Unit and was seconded to act for two months in the office of Deputy Registrar: Academic Administration as temporary secretary. “In January 2022, I was then afforded an opportunity to act as a temporary secretary to the Senior Director: Legal Services while the recruitment process took place. I applied for the position, and in March this year, I was finally permanent.”
Msotywa mentioned that getting her current position has significantly contributed to the financial stability of both her life and her family's. “I am more than content moreover because as a final year LLB student, this opportunity has allowed me to gain extensive knowledge in the field of law.”
When asked about her current position, Msotywa mentioned that having been a STEP student and a contract employee for CUT to finally becoming a permanent employee leaves her with gratitude considering the knowledge, skills and experience she has acquired along the way. “I am a living testimony of CUT not only empowering its employees but its students, considering where I come from,” she said.
Asked to compare her employer with an animal, this is what Msotywa said “If CUT was an animal, it would definitely be an elephant because CUT displays the characteristics of a herd of elephants. CUT is a close family group, adaptive to different cultures and is accommodative while embracing everyone in their own right.”
