CUT employees from humble beginnings to greatness

Ms Beauty Nelani is the Executive Secretary to the Registrar. She started her career as a Student Temporary Employment Programme (STEP) student in the Office of the then Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Services in 2003. She was previously employed as Secretary to the Dean: Student Affairs (formerly known as the Deputy Registrar: Student Services). She is also seconded as the Assistant Residence Manager at Gymnos Residence, which is the residences that accommodate male sports players. She was one of the CUT staff members appointed as a Leadership Fellow under the Leaders in Education and Development Fellowship Programme (LEAD) in 2011-2013. She was also the Guardian of the CUT Student Touring Association and Lesotho Students Association, a former player of Mangaung Hockey Club, Brebnerians Hockey Club and currently a member of the Bloemfontein Social Hiking Club.

Ms Nelani holds an Advanced Diploma in Higher Education Studies at the University of the Free State (UFS); a BTech in Office Management and Technology at CUT; a National Diploma in Office Management and Technology at CUT; and a Short Programme Certificate in Project Management at UFS. Ms Nelani is currently studying towards the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

She held the following leadership positions: National Association of Student Development Practitioners (NASDEV), Free State Coordinator – 2016-2018, Executive Committee Member of CUT Alumni 2014-2018, Community Development officer of CUT Convocation 2007-2013, Treasurer General of South African Technikon Students Union (SATSU), 2003-2005, Treasurer General of the South African Students Congress (SASCO), 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 and CUT SRC Finance Officer 2002/2003

She has presented unpublished papers titled: A Reflection on Morality and Student Leadership in Higher Education Institutions: An African Perspective. Paper delivered at the NASDEV 2011 Winter School, 30 June – 03 July 2011, Walter Sisulu University of Technology, East London, (Co-presented with Dr TPE Tondi) and The Concept of Co-operative Governance in the Higher Education Setting: Towards Enhancing Effective Student Participation. Paper delivered at the NASDEV 2014 Winter School, 01-05 May 2014, Walter Sisulu University of Technology, East London, (co-presented with Dr TPE Tondi and Mr D Makhoali).

She has also presented published papers titled: Tondi, TPE & Nelani, NB. (2017). Issues of Morality and Student Leadership in South African Higher Institutions. Gender and Behaviour 15(2). 8687-8700. ISSN: 1596-9231.
