CUT contributes towards a sustainable environment
CUT joined millions of people across the globe in commemorating Mandela Day earlier today, 18 July 2014. This year, CUT partnered with Mangaung Metro and set an example to other citizens on how they too could observe this day.  Management, staff and student volunteers marched to the city to support cleaning of taxi ranks and streets in the CBD area of Bloemfontein.

These areas were targeted to make them shiny clean in honour of 67 years of Madiba’s fight for peace, justice and equality for all South Africans. “Mandela’s legacy challenges us all to think about our actions, thoughts and practices and the contributions we can make to the greater good of our communities. Littering remains one of the challenges facing our city. Our contribution on this day would show just how much we care about our metro and would like to reduce the carbon footprint that negatively contributes to climate change,” said Prof. Henk de Jager, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal when he addressed CUT community. He said that CUT cares about the city and would like to create awareness and educate the general public about the importance of caring for the city and keeping it clean. This is for the first time that Mandela Day is commemorated since his passing in December 2013.  This day was unanimously voted as a unique resolution to honour him and inspire others to carry on his legacy.
