CUT congratulates Prof. Willie B. du Preez, visiting Professor, on the renewal of his 2026 National Research Foundation (NRF) C2 rating, recognising him as an established researcher.

Prof. du Preez specialises in metal additive manufacturing, with research focused on developing and qualifying titanium-based products for the aerospace and renewable energy sectors. His work on the additive manufacturing of platinum group metals also contributes to strengthening the international competitiveness of South African manufacturing companies.

His research activities include collaborations with industry partners such as Mintek and the supervision of doctoral research projects in advanced manufacturing, materials development, digital twin technology and biomedical applications.

The renewal of his rating recognises the quality and impact of research assessed through local and international peer review. CUT celebrates Prof. du Preez’s continued contribution to research excellence, technological innovation and the advancement of advanced manufacturing in South Africa.
