CUT commemorates Africa Day in style!
The year 2017 marks the 54th Africa Day celebration, and CUT is rallying behind the national call of embracing and partnering with fellow Africans residing in South Africa and elsewhere on the continent to unite African states as one Africa and build a better.

In commemorating this month, a number of activities were packaged for CUT staff and students to support Africa Day and promote greater unity among CUT students and staff, as well local communities. Culture, music, drama and food were shared among different African countries. Local small businesses were also invited to sell their traditional artefacts and food at the market. Also, staff and students across the university came in large numbers dressed in their traditional gears.  About 19 states whose students are studying at CUT were on display through the presentation of various African artefacts as part of public education and awareness to help CUT students to better understand Africa as a whole. “We must embrace and partner with our fellow Africans residing in South Africa. Our responsibility is to treat each other with dignity and respect regardless of their race, country of origin or believes.

As the CUT community, we are saying no to xenophobia and zero tolerance to discrimination.  Let us use this opportunity to remind ourselves of our own achievements as a continent and use this occasion as an encouragement to strive to improve CUT, the region, province, continent and the country. We need to empower the youth of Africa, as you are the future leaders and our trust is in you. We believe that you can take this continent forward and help us embrace the Human Project. We believe in one race and that is the human race” said Prof. Henk de Jager, newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and Principal when addressing the CUT community at the Africa day celebration.

African Month is seen as an opportunity for universities and other institutions to take hands with one another towards developing a united and prosperous continent.
