CUT celebrates workers day
May Day on 1st May is commemorated as International Workers' Day (also as May Day) by many countries to recognise contributions that workers are making in their respective countries and to raise awareness about their plight in their workplace. In light of the above, the Unit for Transformation and Constructive Engagement (UNITE) at CUT commemorated the day on 5 May 2017 with workers from both Bloemfontein and Welkom campuses. The purpose of the event is to honour and appreciate CUT workers who always show dedication to their work and ensure that the institution is clean at all times. This event was driven by CUT 2017 theme: The year of the Human Project, which focuses on staff, students and other stakeholders, to enhance the human reconciliation drive at CUT.

This was an opportune moment for Prof. de Jager, the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor and Principal to meet and greet with workers and get to know them. “All staff members are important and valued for the hard work and dedication they put to the institution. Our theme for this year is about the Human Project and people first. We want to motivate each and every one of you to do your best in your workplace; to enhance a team spirit; to ensure student success in their studies and to guide you to achieve your full potential. “It is our vision to instil an institutional culture and ethos where people are valued, and where all forms of unfair discrimination are uprooted, whilst promoting a culture that embraces diversity, non-racialism, non-sexism and human dignity for all”, said Prof de Jager.
