CUT and Vodacom partners in Mobile Technology education
Mobile Application Development has taken the world by storm as the technology of tomorrow, and Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) has taken up the new innovative solutions in partnership with Vodacom.   In the present fast-paced business environment, the adoption of innovative mobile technologies play a crucial role in an organisation’s business strategy and value-add propositions. An intensive two-day workshop was presented recently to 3rd year Information Technology (IT) students to keep them abreast of the latest development in the mobile industry and the impact thereof on the IT industry.

The workshop had as an outcome the purpose of exposing students to the new application development world called Android Development and what it means for them as the future developers in a changing technology landscape. The secondary purpose of the workshop was to launch the Vodacom Student Chapter that will serve to encourage local Mobile Application Development and in so doing get IT students involved in the Vodacom Developers Programme by introducing them to the Vodacom Application market through technical and professional workshops, and application development contests. CUT’s Strategic Transformation of Educational Programmes and Structures (STEPS) are making the programmes offered demand driven and well-defined for the labour market.   This was the first step in cementing a long term partnership with Vodacom with regard to the education of Mobile Application Developers. The workshop also allowed students to interact with representatives from Vodacom and share ideas around the current thinking on IT solutions.   Pictured is the group of CUT IT students that are now part of the newly formed Vodacom Student Chapter.
