Once again CUT Ixias have done CUT proud, as they were crowned the 2014 Varsity Shield Champions after beating the University of Kwazulu-Natal Impi by 35 to 26 score in a home game final at CUT FNB Stadium. Ixias have been able to defend their championship title with such ease.

“All credits must go to our boys, I am very proud of their achievement. They kept pushing forward and sticking to our game plan”, said Mr Skillie Bester, CUT Ixias Coach after the game. Before this victory, CUT consolidated its standings by five points against the second placed Imp to end the series at the top of the log. In the 2014 tournament, CUT managed to win almost every game; except for the last week’s dress rehearsal game against UKZN Impi. The team’s consistency brought them to the final game and all the way to a win.  The team will move up to Varsity Cup League next year.  The Varsity Shield titles from 2011 and 2013 kept reviving their hopes that one day they will play in a big league with the best and this time their promotion to the Varsity Cup was certainly in their grasp.  Good Luck to the boys.
