Professional Background
Prof. Alfred Henry Makura is a Full Professor in Educational Management, Law, and Research, and a Teaching Advancement at University (TAU) Fellow in the Department of Postgraduate Studies (Education) within the Faculty of Humanities at the Central University of Technology, South Africa. He has an abiding interest in and is passionate about female education leadership and management, educational leadership, teacher education, curriculum development, gender studies, higher education, and professional development.
Prof. Makura subscribes to Gwarinda’s (1995) philosophy that education is not merely about training people’s habits regarding moral, mental, and social attitudes, but is an act of liberating the human mind. Through this lens, humans acquire the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to tackle contemporary challenges such as gender discrimination and violence, toxic masculinity, patriarchy, unethical leadership, and gender disparities. Previously, he worked as a senior academic development practitioner and acting manager at the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) at the University of Fort Hare, and extensively as a principal lecturer in Teacher Education at Morgenster Teachers' College and the Zimbabwe Open University.
