Professional Background

Dr Johann Perkins is a highly experienced Clinical Technologist specialising in Critical Care, with an extensive academic, research, teaching, and clinical technology background. Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa since 2004, he maintains a strong focus on clinical simulation, health sciences education, research methodology, and the application of technology in healthcare.

His doctoral research resulted in the development of a sustainable clinical simulation framework for pre-specialisation clinical technology training in South Africa, which was subsequently implemented within the Clinical Technology curriculum at CUT. Dr Perkins has extensive external moderation experience for universities including the Durban University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology, and the University of Johannesburg, and his research into neonatal ventilator performance led to the development of a bedside quality-control kit nominated for a Vice-Chancellor’s Innovation Award.
