SHORT CV | Dr Elicha Jonker joined the Department of Tourism and Event Management at the Central University of Technology (CUT) in 2020. She holds a BCom degree, an Honours degree, and a master’s degree in Tourism Management, all from the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus. Her passion for travel led her to work in Key West, Florida, USA, in 2009. Upon returning to South Africa, she served as Project Manager at Networx for Career Development, overseeing a social development initiative by the National Department of Tourism to train and place unemployed youth in the tourism industry. Dr. Jonker continues to contribute to this project as a consultant. From 2014 to 2020, she held positions as lecturer and senior lecturer at the North-West University, Mafikeng Campus. She completed her PhD in Tourism Management in 2019 with a focus on tourism and the creative industries. |
AREAS OF EXPERTISE | Dr Elicha Jonker’s primary research focuses on the intersection between tourism and the creative industries, particularly on Creative Tourism. Her research focuses on leveraging cultural and creative assets to promote sustainable economic development within tourism, aiming to create innovative tourism practices that enhance visitor experiences while providing significant community benefits. |
