Professional Background

Dr Nolwazi M.R. Qumbisa is a lecturer specialising in Housing within the Built Environment Department at the Central University of Technology, Free State. She is affiliated with the nGAP programme and currently serves as Head of Department.

Her research interests include affordable housing, sustainable human settlements, urban development planning, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, inclusive education and internationalisation.

Dr Qumbisa completed a Doctorate in Construction Management at Nelson Mandela University in December 2023. Her doctoral research focused on alternative housing approaches in South Africa, with particular emphasis on self-help housing.

She is an Associate Human Settlement Practitioner recognised by the Institute of Human Settlement Practitioners South Africa (IHSP-SA) and serves on the IHSP-SA Board of Directors as Secretary of the Academics Forum.
