Protection Services is responsible for safeguarding the University’s staff, students, visitors, assets, and infrastructure across the Bloemfontein and Welkom campuses. The section is committed to providing a safe, secure, and enabling environment that supports teaching, learning, research, student development, and the overall institutional mandate of CUT.

Our approach combines proactive crime prevention, visible security operations, incident management, stakeholder collaboration, and the strategic application of modern security technologies. We work closely with internal stakeholders, the South African Police Service (SAPS), community structures, and relevant partners to address campus safety risks and strengthen security both on campus and in surrounding student communities.

An Integrated Security Model

The section is progressively advancing an integrated security model through the optimisation of electronic surveillance, access control, digital security solutions, intelligence-led deployment, and data-informed operational decision-making.
