Prof. Alfred Ngowi, DVC: Research, Innovation and Engagements officially opened the WIL24 conference alongside and Prof. Ulrika Lundh Snis, University West.

The Central University of Technology (CUT) in collaboration with the University West, Sweden, held the second international WIL24 conference on 3-5 April 2024, at Kapama Private Game Reserve under the theme: ‘Work Integrated Learning for Global Engagement and Societal Development’.

The conference aims to address the importance of lifelong learning and knowledge creation in a rapidly changing world. Through close international collaboration with University West, the WIL24 conference is also envisioned to offer unique platform for researchers, practitioners, and cross-sector actors to join forces and co-create a more sustainable future.

The conference scope also covered issues on how work-integrated learning can address global engagement and societal development challenges, as well as the need to reframe the roots of working and learning to make them simultaneously relevant in the context of the current global challenges.

The conference, which coincided with the university’s 20th anniversary, was attended by distinguished international speakers, industry leaders, and over 50 researchers and scholars from 14 different universities.

Fact: CUT provides a work-integrated learning as a distinguishing feature to equip and prepare its students for professional practice. The university also place emphasis on practical areas of learning and work integrated learning to enable its graduates to be competitive in various places of work.  Last year, 99.9 percent of the undergraduate students were successfully placed for work integrated learning.
