Community Engagement at CUT forms an integral part of Research and Innovation Unit at CUT.

CUT subscribes to a strategy where Community Engagement (CE) will be rolled-out via the curriculum in association with government, business and industry and social communities (quadruple helix partnerships).l

“Community” is therefore not limited to “social communities” only. Community engagement is based on an integration of the university with the community (via the quadruple helix approach) and social communities.  Thus, community engagement is defined as the mainstreaming of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum to advance the development and application of knowledge via quadruple helix partnerships and networks

The university’s Vision 2020 Statement place the emphasis on social and technological innovations, socio-economic development with the aim of creating jobs (innovative and entrepreneurial spirit) and to be engaged with its communities. The university is challenged to mainstream the curriculum in support of this university mission statement. Another emerging challenge is to include the value that the university is creating in its community engagement activities.
