On 27 February 2019, the CUT International Office hosted Dr Stefan Buchholz a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) representative from the University of the Western Cape to present about amazing and exciting study and funding opportunities available for both staff and students who are pursuing their Masters and PhD’s.

DAAD provides scholarships in Germany for international students for a range of postgraduate courses at German Universities, which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from developing countries with further specialised studies.

In his presentation, Dr Stefan Buchholz stated that the German institutions of higher learning are globally recognised and offer an essential impulse for the global science community. He said that DAAD is one of the largest scholarship organisations that operates worldwide. “This exchange promotes mutual understanding and helps broaden horizons. It opens a completely new academic and personal landscape because scholars get to learn and understand different cultures and new dynamics. If you go to Germany, you will learn a lot about the German academic systems, economy and different approaches to solving problems,” he said.

Dr Buchholz further encouraged researchers and departmental staff members interested in international cooperation also to apply as there are many other attractive scholarships for them.
