Information and Communication Technology Centre

The mission of the Information and Communication Technology Centre (IComTec) is to facilitate the effective and efficient use of Technology in the fulfillment of Central University of Technology's mission.

Apart from its role in strategic planning, the IComTec is developing into a facilitator and pro-active co-ordinator of integrated technology services used on the CUT campus.

Computer Services

As one of the more prominent sections of the IComTec, Computer Services is responsible for the administrative computer systems, campus network environment and technical support of all computers and software on CUT campus. The diversity of this section leads to specialization in:

Systems

Providing for the computing and data processing needs of CUT

Networks

Facilitating a network environment on CUT campus capable of supplying in the bandwidth need of the newest Technologies on campus. A WAN to various / satellite campuses forms part of this environment.

Technical Support

Responsible for the specification, purchase, maintenance of all PC's as well as software maintenance and licensing.

Management Information Systems

The MIS section of IComTec serves to provide information required for Information Management at CUT.

Telecommunication Systems

Telecommunication systems provide an extensive telephone network on campus. A modem PABX provides excellent management of telephone communication and voice mail whilst video conferencing facilities are available.

Other Systems / Services

IComTec also provides systems for management information and support for Telematic education.
