School
of Government
Management
The School of Government Management strives to
equip students with the relevant knowledge,
insight and skills for a career in the public
sector. Therefore, the School offers
undergraduate and postgraduate courses that
examine the management and development
challenges facing South Africa in the 21st
century.
In the nature of the professional task of the
School of Government Management, it supports
any initiative to enhance excellence in public
service delivery and to make the public sector
more relevant for the needs of the South
African community.
The contents of the programme in public
management focused amongst others on the
promotion and enhancement of comprehensive
transparency, accountability, effective service
delivery, freedom of action and democratic
government and a development-orientated public
sector.
This is then being realized by means of
practice- and career-orientated training and
research.
With our advanced M. Tech. and D. Tech. degree
programmes, one of our objectives is to further
equip public managers who have already proven
themselves as above-average students and
managers, as advanced role-players in the
public sector.
These speciality-directed research degrees thus
do not only require a thorough knowledge of the
subject in which the student is specialising,
but also a particular ability in research
techniques and methods. Therefore these
candidates, with their research background,
should also be able to come forward with new
thoughts, for example, to the advantage of the
government institution concerned and for the
general support and development of excellence
in the public sector.
