Qualified students, who complete this diploma,
prepare themselves for a career as engineering
technologists in the big world of the
construction industry. Three basic
activities are dealt with, namely planning and
design, construction and maintenance. The
work of the diplomate will vary, depending on
the area in which he / she may be working, but
in all the areas he / she will be required to
assist professional engineers. He / she
will also be involved in surveying, design,
cost accounting, draughting, traffic studies
and material testing. Career
opportunities exist in state departments, such
as Water Affairs, as well as organisations such
as Spoornet, Eskom, the mines, construction
firms and civil consulting engineers.
Diplomates can also start their own businesses
or work at research institutions.
