Planning, Institutional Research, Academic
Planning, Quality Assurance, Data Management,
Data Services and Data Liaison (HEMIS etc.).

The overall mandate of Institutional Planning
(IP) is to perform, support and supervise the
tasks necessary to ensure that CUT’s
strategic and operational planning and
monitoring of its performance, its decision
making and management information support
systems, quality assurance functions and
compliance with Higher Education and Labour

Institutional Research
The Institutional Research office supports
strategic planning, based on responsible
research into institutional matters and
provides advice and operational support in the
mostly quantitative aspects of research into
Human Resources, Finances, Physical Resources,
Students and Academic matters, as they pertain
to an institution of Higher Education. In
particular, IR provides sound evidence of
institutional performance, of socio-economic
trends to which CUT should respond, and
performs regular "customer" opinion and
experience surveys on relevant themes.
Academic Planning and Quality
Assurance
Academic Planning functions to integrate staff,
student, financial resources and infrastructure
planning with the CUT’s Enrolment Plan,
contracted with the Department of Higher
Education and Training (DHET). It must
ensure that its Program Qualification Matrix
(PQM) remains totally aligned with the vision
of the CUT, the higher education transformation
agenda, as well as the socio-economic needs of
the country.
Quality Assurance develops review systems, in
line with the Higher-Education Quality
Committee (HEQC) directives, and carries them
out in the form of Institutional, Academic
Program and Support unit audits/Reviews, which
include peer evaluation. These give rise
to Quality improvement plans, the outcomes of
which are monitored and updated where
necessary. Furthermore, quality
improvement must be entrenched within every
single endeavour at CUT, to continuously
increase effectiveness and efficiency.

decision-making across the institution;
