Solomon Makola was born in Johannesburg. He grew up in Limpopo Province in Tafelkop. He matriculated at Rammohlokolo Senior Secondary School, in Motetema, in 1990.
He then proceeded to Vista University, Welkom Campus, in 1991. In 1994 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education (BA.Ed) with majors in Psychology and Education. After completing a BA Honours in Psychology in 1996, he was employed by the Free State Department of Education at the Child Guidance Clinic, in Welkom, as a First Education Specialist. In February 1999 he resigned from the position and enrolled for Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and completed the degree in 2000. In 2003 he enrolled for a PhD in Child Psychology at the University of the Free State, with which he graduated in 2007. The title of his thesis was: Meaning in Life and Life Stressors as predictors of first-year academic performance.
Since he qualified as a psychologist he held several positions including: Student Counsellor (Vista University); Assistant Director: Counselling and Acting Campus Manager, Central University of Technology, Free State. He is currently the Campus Manager at Central University of Technology, Free State, Welkom Campus. To sharpen his management skills he completed a Higher Education Leadership and Management course at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in 2010, as well as, the Advanced Health Management Programme at Yale University, in partnership with Foundation for Professional Development, in 2011.
He has published a number of psychology papers in international journals. Since 2003, and mainly because of his interest in helping others to discover meaning and purpose in life, he conducts psycho-education talks on the national radio, Lesedi FM, under SABC Education. Through his involvement in the Leaders in Education and Development (LEAD) Fellowship Programme, he authored two manuscripts, currently undergoing appraisal, 1) Pimpdapain: Purpose Driven Dialogues, and 2) Find Meaning Stop Wondering.
He is a Rotarian and also serves on Committees and Boards of a number of governmental and non-governmental organizations, councils and agencies.
